Hirohiko Hirose and Tatsuhiko Hirose are Japanese luthiers who worked together as a father-and-son team. Centered mainly around the 1970s, they produced guitars known for their careful craftsmanship and calm, refined tonal character. Their instruments were well regarded by performers in Japan and established a respected domestic brand.

[Instrument Information]
This is a No.30 model made in 1977, with a string length of 650 mm.

It is a well-balanced instrument with an honest and responsive character. The midrange is particularly alluring, carrying a subtle sensual warmth. The tone has a slightly veiled quality, yet remains smooth and silky. While the overall volume is moderate, the response is quick and the sustain is pleasing, resulting in an excellent overall balance. One can clearly sense the meticulous tonal approach characteristic of Japanese luthiers.

The top is finished in shellac, while the back and sides are finished in lacquer. It is fitted with Fustero tuning machines. The neck shows a slight forward relief and remains in good condition, as do the frets. The string height is set at 3.8 mm on the 1st string and 4.0 mm on the 6th string, with 1.6 mm of saddle remaining.

Now 47 years since its construction, the instrument is in condition appropriate for its age. Fine surface marks consistent with normal playing wear can be seen across the top. There is a dent on the bass side near the bridge, several dents near the edge of the lower bout, and a dent on the treble side of the top. All are consistent with regular use, and the finish remains in good condition. There is no history of crack repairs, and the guitar remains structurally sound.
