[Profile]
Born in 1947 in Hitachi City, Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, Shinpei Nishino began building guitars in his teenage years. At the age of 17, he apprenticed under the legendary Tsunezaburo Kurosawa in 1964. In 1969, he established his own workshop in Tokorozawa, marking the beginning of his independent career. From the start, Nishino showed a deep interest in the work of Hermann Hauser I, which continues to influence his guitar making to this day. Drawing from his dedicated research, he has consistently produced guitars with exceptional tonal balance.
Nishino was one of the first Japanese luthiers to craft electric classical (elegat) guitars. His renowned precision in craftsmanship also brought him numerous requests from the acoustic guitar world, resulting in a limited number of high-quality acoustic models. Still, it is the Hauser-style classical guitars that best reflect his aesthetic sensibilities and technical mastery. Each instrument boasts remarkable beauty, a lustrous tone, and outstanding acoustic balance, staying true to the Hauser name. The materials he uses are of a superb grade for this price range, making his guitars one of the most cost-effective options available in Japan.
[Description]
Shinpei Nishino No.50 Hauser Model – Spruce / Central & South American Rosewood – 650mm Scale (2025 New Arrival)
This 2025 new arrival is the No.50 Hauser model by veteran Japanese luthier Shinpei Nishino. Featuring a spruce top and back and sides made of Central & South American rosewood, it is a premium version of his standard No.35 model, which uses Indian rosewood.
Nishino’s decades of experience are clearly evident in this guitar, which achieves a superbly balanced middle ground—one that aligns beautifully with the tonal and tactile preferences of many Japanese players. While it doesn’t replicate the full elasticity of an original Hauser, it offers that characteristically firm and slightly dry Hauser-style articulation. The added clarity and transparency, likely a result of the high-grade rosewood, lend the instrument a fresh, vibrant resonance.
Tonally, it delivers full-bodied basses, sparkling trebles, and an exceptional overall balance that faithfully echoes the Hauser tradition. Each note has clear definition and separation, with excellent response that synchronizes naturally with the player’s touch. Pitch stability and tonal purity are outstanding, making it an ideal instrument for refined classical performance.
Visually and tonally, the guitar exudes a stoic, German-inspired aesthetic, yet offers the dynamic range and expressive flexibility required for a wide variety of classical repertoire. A top-tier model from a master luthier, combining clarity, richness, and precision in perfect harmony.
