[Maker Information]
Yukio Nakade was born as the third son of Sakazo Nakade (1906–1993), one of the great masters of Japanese guitar making. In 1929, when Andrés Segovia first visited Japan, Sakazo had the opportunity to copy the guitar used by Segovia, which led him to devote himself fully to guitar making. During the 1950s and 60s, he became one of the central figures supporting the Japanese guitar-making world alongside Masaru Kohno.

All three sons—Teruaki (the eldest), Toshihiko (the second son), and Yukio (the third son)—became guitar makers, each establishing an independent brand and playing a central role in the development of Japanese classical guitars.

Under his father’s guidance, Yukio mastered solid craftsmanship and went on to establish his own distinctive style. While inheriting the Nakade family tradition, he has earned recognition for his individually voiced tonal character.

[Instrument Information]
This is a No.1000 model made in 1981, with a string length of 653 mm.

It has a lightly springy character, producing a dry, woody tone reminiscent of striking seasoned timber. The sound is well balanced from low to high positions, with the trebles offering a particularly lustrous and refined quality. Although the overall volume is moderate, the response is quick and the sustain is pleasing, resulting in an excellent overall tonal balance. It is forgiving to the touch and offers comfortable, highly playable action.

The guitar features a cashew lacquer finish and is fitted with Gotoh tuning machines. The neck is straight, with almost no fret wear. The string height is set at 2.8 mm on the 1st string and 3.8 mm on the 6th string, providing a soft, comfortable string tension that enhances playability.

Now 43 years since its construction, the instrument shows signs of use: scattered playing marks on the treble side of the top, two dents on the bass side of the top, and one dent with a large scratch on the lower bout. There are also fine scratches on the bass side of the back, likely from contact with clothing. All are consistent with normal playing wear, and the finish remains in good condition. There is no history of crack repairs, and the instrument remains in healthy structural condition.

A super-lightweight case is included.
