【Torres “La Emperatriz” Inspired Model by Tezanos Perez】
〔Luthier〕
M. Tezanos Perez is a Madrid-based brand founded by two highly respected makers, Mariano Tezanos Castro (b. 1949) and Teodoro Gregorio Perez Mariblanca (b. 1952). Both craftsmen trained and worked for many years at the famous José Ramírez workshop during its golden era, gaining extensive experience as senior builders.
Mariano is the son of Mariano Tezanos Martin, one of the most important craftsmen at the Ramírez workshop in the 1960s. Teodoro Perez also worked there for over two decades, producing a large number of instruments while refining his craft under leading figures of the Madrid school.
In 1992 the two makers joined forces to establish the M. Tezanos Perez brand. Their guitars combine the powerful projection typical of the Madrid school with refined balance and expressive musical character. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, their collaborative instruments became highly regarded among players and collectors. After the late 2000s the two makers continued independently, with Teodoro Perez remaining active today as one of the prominent figures of the modern Madrid school.
〔Instrument〕
This guitar was built in 2005 as a replica model inspired by Antonio de Torres’ famous 1884 instrument “La Emperatriz”, with a scale length of 650 mm.
While inspired by Torres, the internal design follows the makers’ own structural approach, resulting in a sound closer to the Madrid school tradition. The guitar delivers a powerful and resonant tone, characteristic of the Ramírez lineage, with strong projection and a rich, open voice. The response is quick and balanced, allowing the player to produce sound easily and naturally with minimal effort from the right hand.
The guitar is finished entirely in shellac. The rosette features an eye-catching design based on black geometric motifs combining small squares and arrow patterns. The instrument is fitted with high-quality tuners made by Fustero.
The neck has a comfortable D-shaped profile of standard thickness, with moderate string tension that offers an easy and natural playing feel. The neck remains straight and the frets are in good condition. The current setup measures 2.8 mm (1st string) and 3.9 mm (6th string) at the 12th fret, with approximately 0.5–1.0 mm of saddle remaining.
Now about 20 years old, the guitar remains in very good condition for its age. The soundboard shows light playing marks and small surface scratches mainly around the soundhole, but nothing significant. The back and sides show only minor wear from normal contact with clothing, and there are no crack repairs.
A hard case is included.
