[Profile] Juan Francisco Salvador Gimenez (1946-2010) was born in La Canada de San Urbano,Armenia, Andalusia, Spain. On the label, “Bisnieto de Torres” is printed along with the maker's name, indicating that he is the great-grandson of Antonio de Torres (1817-1892),also born in Almería. In 1959, at the age of 13, he began training as a woodworker, and in 1973, at the age of 23, he began making guitars based on a template board left to him by his great-grandfather. He visited the master craftsman Jose Luis Romanillos, who had a workshop in Semley, England at the time, several times to receive advice on guitar making. His guitars, made slowly in the style of Torres, have a different charm from those of his great-grandfather, and are very rare in the market today, as the brand produces only about one or two guitars per year. [Description] Juan Francisco Salvador Gimenez's 1996 No. 8 is now in stock. This is a guitar made almost entirely after the great-great-grandfather Torres in terms of body shape, head shape, rosette, purfling, and other external features, as well as the internal construction. It has a rich, thick, woody sound. The overall tone is restrained rather than Spanish lucidity, and the appearance is vintage-like and calm. The body's well-sounding yet modestly harmonious tone is reminiscent of Torres, and its natural sound is appealing. There is no history of major repairs such as cracks or modifications. There are minor playing scratches throughout, but none of them detract from the appearance.
