The brand was founded by Santiago Manuel Hernandez (1895-1975) and Victoriano Aguado Rodriguez (1897-1972), with Hernandez overseeing body construction and Aguado in charge of painting, headstock work, and supervision. Known as "Aguado," the brand became one of the most renowned classical guitar makers of the late 20th century.

Hernandez, born in Valmojado, Spain, began his apprenticeship at a young age and quickly became a key figure in the workshop. Aguado, born in Madrid, became his close collaborator. In 1945, they sought advice from renowned guitarist Rejino Sainz de la Maza, who encouraged them to pursue guitar-making.

With guidance from De la Maza and Modesto Borreguero (1893-1969), the brand's guitars gained popularity, and at one point, the waiting list exceeded 70 customers. The brand is known for its refined tonal quality, elegant body design, and warm, expressive sound.

Hernandez y Aguado 1967 No. 343 is currently available. The label bears a handwritten inscription, "To my little grandson," indicating that this guitar was privately commissioned. The internal design reflects the characteristics typical of their later instruments.

The tone of this guitar is distinctly Madrid-like in the most positive sense—musical, with a range that spans from delicate to majestic. The treble is subtly feminine, while the overall tonal balance is warm and pleasant, with rich low to mid-range frequencies enveloping the higher tones. Playability is outstanding, with no strain on the left hand thanks to the meticulous neck angle adjustment.

The string tension is moderate to low, yet the sound retains remarkable power and responsiveness, making it a joy to play. The soundboard bears light scratches from play, but these do not detract significantly from its appearance.
