Born in Gunma, Japan, in 1974, he began making classical guitars at the age of 20. He learned at Sakae Ishii's workshop, where he built about 140 guitars. In 2001, he attended a workshop with José Luis Romanillos in Sigüença, Spain, which provided him with a decisive experience and convinced him that the traditional Spanish method was the direction he should take.
After returning to Japan, he set up a workshop in Tochigi Prefecture, and in October 2002, he launched the Romanillos model. His guitars are the fruit of his exploratory spirit and outstanding in their design and sonic perfection. He currently produces five to six guitars per year.

[Description]
This is a new work by Masahiro Tanabe, No. 100 Santos Hernandez model 2023, No. 273. This is a tribute to Santos' 1936 model, which was made based on measurements taken from the actual instrument and its precise data. The sincere approach to the essence of the instrument has resulted in a sound that is all part of the instrument, and the finish is sufficient to make one imagine the sound of the Santos when it was new. Tanabe's own personality naturally blends with the character of Santos, and it is as if a masterpiece has been dressed in a modern costume.
The dignified sound image of each note is wonderful, and from the lowest to the highest note, it resonates as it should, while at the same time forming a perfect balance. This contributes to the clear sound of each voice part of the polyphony in particular. It is also noteworthy that the tone quality shows a variety of expression changes, natural dynamism from the weakest to the strongest notes, and richness of volume. This is a piece of rare quality. The overall finish is extremely delicate and beautiful shellac, and the elegance of the exterior is also a result of Tanabe's unique workmanship. The strings are moderately tensioned and relatively easy to play.
